Patti's insights into parenting and raising children have found their way into magazines across the country. Her published works include topics on family finance, women's health, educational issues and church drama. She also enjoys writing for local papers, newsletters, regional journals and websites and has covered everything from paramedics on bicycles to treating infertility.
Since beginning her writing career 18 years ago, Patti's main writing focus has been children's books. That's why she was so excited when her story, "Fishing on the Black Volta," appeared in the June 2007 issue of Boy's Quest Magazine. Currently, Patti's children's books travel all over the country looking for good publishing homes, and she's excited about where they might end up.
Patti grew up in Westland, Michigan and spent 10 years in Nashville, Tennessee, attending college and teaching Middle School. That's where she met her husband, Gene. They now live in Farmington Hills, Michigan, with their three kids, Wesley, Julia and Olivia. They share their home with Gracie, the energetic Australian Cattle Dog, Shadow the lovable Black Lab and Gladria the bunny.
Patti Richards currently specializes in children's stories of all shapes and sizes. Most of her story subjects are drawn from the hilarity of everyday life, her love of all creatures furry and wild and her tough and crazy southern ancestors.
Patti is a member of SCBWI and enjoys all genres of children’s literature. She likes to write with rhythm and rhyme because there's always a song in her head. One of her family's favorite games is to say a word and see if she can think of a song to go with it. Since she's an old movie and musical buff, they rarely stump her!
